The Pakistan Pediatric Association (PPA) is a National Association of Pediatricians of Pakistan. It's members are qualified pediatricians with at least a diploma in child health (DCH) & OR Membership or Fellowship of college of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan (MCPS, FCPS) or Royal Colleges of England/ Canada (MRCP,FRCP) or American Board of Pediatrics (DABP).

HISTORY

Pakistan Paediatric Association (By Prof..Nizam ul Hasan Founder member of Pakistan Pediatric Association).

Year 2004 will mark the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Pakistan Pediatric Association (birth year 1967). The Association at birth was named as Association of Pediatricians of Pakistan by its founding members at a meeting held at the P.M.A.House Karachi under the President ship of Brig.Siraj ul Haq, who also happened to be Director General of Health in the government of President Ayub Khan. Prof. Hamid Ali Khan from Karachi was convener. Those who attended included Prof. S. M. K. Wasti, Dr. M. Ansari, (Lahore) and. Dr. A. M. Jaffer (Quetta) All were qualified Pediatricians. Brig.Haq was elected as President and Prof. Hamid Ali Khan as vice President, the author as Secretary General. Mrs Mubarika Shah was coopted later as member of the executive committee. The Association got membership of the International Pediatric Association soon after, as later in the year it was to hold the Afro-Asian Pediatric Congress. This also happened to be the first International and National meeting of the Association. It was inaugurated by the President of Pakistan Ayub Khan. The meeting was big success; over 400 delegates attended it from home and abroad.

The Second National meeting was also held at Karachi after an interval of two year. Dr. Hamid Ali Khan was elected as President and Prof. Wasti as Vice-president I continued as Secretary General. A new activity of rotating clinical meeting was introduced for the first time between Civil and Jinnah Hospital at Karachi where interesting cases were presented. However there was no clinical activity at the National level as the number of Pediatricians could be counted on fingertips.

Four years later after it was founded a meeting held at the School of Pediatrics, now N.I.CH. Prof. S.M.K.Wasti was elected as the President and Dr. Yousuf Siddiqui Secretary. The name of the Association was changed to Pakistan Pediatric Association. The next meeting was held at Lahore and an amendment was made in the constitution that President ship would rotate every two years in provinces and Islamabad, as Center branch. At a meeting at Peshawar Gold Medal awards were introduced for the meritorious service in Pediatrics, by the then President of Pakistan Gen. Ziaul Haq.(1978) Prof. Hamid Ali Khan and Prof.S.M.K. Wasti was the first recipient. Since its foundation many meetings both national and international were held alternately between smaller cities where the unit of Pediatric existed and various provincial, and Federal capital. A joint meeting with the British Association of Pediatricians was held at Lahore. (1994) .The Pakistan Pediatric Association has National activities on Nutrition and immunization with the cooperation of UNICEF and World Health Organization. A book on Pediatrics by multiple authors was published with Dr. M.A. Arif as editor. The association also brings out a journal from Lahore; (1978) Prof. Wasti was the first editor. With the efforts of members Pediatrics has been included in the examination of M.B.B.S in most universities of Pakistan. Post graduate diplomas of M.D and F.C.P.S were instituted as far back as 1973.

Gold Medalists:PPA honours it's two dedicated members, who have excelled in many ways in the service of children through "Presidential Gold medal" award at every beinniel meeting. The List of recipients is as under:
